Acer Aspire One 751h Netbook Review - 5.75/7

With a large 11.6″ screen and a viewing resolution of 1366*768 pixels, the AO751h seems like a netbook that could make the crossover into notebook land. It’s incredibly sharp display sets this netbook a cut above the rest. The model’s widescreen aspect ratio is 16:9 and this adds to video viewing pleasure.

Now to the innards of the AO751h. But first, a word on the different models out there. There are 3-4 models available under the price of $320.  The base models have the laggard Intel Atom Z520 Processor which runs at 1.33GHz. They feature a 160GB HDD, 1GB of RAM and a 6 cell battery that lasts about eight hours. The OS of choice is Windows XP Home. The AO751h-1401, 1893 and 1522 sit in the $350-$400 bracket. These models feature the same processor and battery, but 2GB of RAM, a 250GB HDD and Windows Vista.

Acer Aspire One 751h Netbook Review – Top Features

• Screen Size and Resolution - The 11.6″ screen is a big plus for the AO751h with a large 1366×768 pixel resolution only the Sony Vaio P can beat.
• Great keyboard - This netbook has a 100% sized keyboard with chiclet-style keys and is a pleasure to type on.
• Lightweight - Even though it has a large screen, its still less than an inch thick and only 2.75lbs.
• Nice Design – Looks sweet.

Acer Aspire One 751h0 Netbook Review – Drawbacks and things to keep in mind

• Processor Speed - The combination of a not so hot processor (performance is inferior to the Atom 270/280) and a leeching OS isn’t such a good idea. But XP works just fine.
• Bundled programs – Come with bundled software that slows it down. Uninstall recommended.
• Application launch problem – The screen sometime goes black (outside application window) and doesn’t immediately return to normal background image.
• Too glossy – The screen is difficult to view in bright light.

Acer Aspire One 751h Netbook Review -Ratings

1. Price and Value for money – 1.0 Star. The AO751h with it’s 11.6″ screen, great keyboard scores full marks in spite of weaker performance because it costs just a shade over $300.
2. Speed and Performance – 0.5 Star. The inferior processor runs OK for Windows XP. But you can feel its a drag for the Vista version.
3. Screen – 1.0 Star. The size is large for netbooks, it has high resolution, is bright and plays HD video.
4. Keyboard, Touchpad, Useability – 0.75 Star. The AO751h has a full sized keyboard with large keys. The touchpad is fine, though slightly on the smaller side.
5. Portability and Battery Life – 0.75 Star. The battery lasts a goodly 7+ hours and at 2.75lbs, this is one light netbook.
6. Looks and Design – 1.0 Star. The AO751h is stunning. It’s like a supermodel – thin and sexy. If only the battery didn’t just out. But hey, some of us like a bit of booty, eh?
7. Connectivity and Extensibility – 0.75 Star. This netbook has adequate ports and WiFI capability.

This gives the Acer Aspire One 751h an overall rating of 5.75 out of 7 Stars.

Acer Aspire One 751h Netbook Review – Our Recommendation

The great keyboard, excellent screen and resolution quality, and more than decent battery life make this the AO751h to take seriously when making our purchase decision. It has one major weakness – the processor; but if you factor in that its one of the cheapest models on the market, you’ve got yourself a winner. Go ahead and buy this one.
