ASUS 1005PE first Pineview Netbook to make Amazon bestseller list

We’re not surprised to see this one come to pass. The upgrade to ASUS’s 1005HA – the 1005PE has become the first Pine Trail processor netbook to hit up amazon’s bestseller charts and has mowed its way upto the numero uno spot. This ASUS Eee PC starts at $339.99 for the lower battery life model. The MU17 features a 6-cell Li-Ion with a 4400 mAh charge that should last 11 hours, whereas the higher priced PU17 features 5600 mAh charge lasting 14 hours.

Pricing Questions

The MU17 and PU17 differ by $30 for an extra 3 hours of battery life. We’re wondering at what point the laws of diminishing marginal demand kicks in, err….at what point additional battery life becomes a bit redundant. If I was getting 11 hours of battery, 14 wouldn’t really have me spend an additional amount. On the other hand, a significantly larger deviation would be a a plus point.

And on another note, the 1005HA equivalents are selling for only $20-$30 less than the PE versions. The PE versions only real benefit is the battery and the 1005HAs are still selling big. Kind of proves our point, wethinks. Another question that’s thrown up is what are netbook-makers going to dangle in front of us once this battery hooplah becomes redundant. What do you think?
