CES netbooks – ASUS Seashell 1008P
About a month ago, we first profiled ASUS’s upcoming 1008P design. ASUS showed off their netbook at the CES and we were able to find out a bit more about it.
The first thing that catches the eye is the stunning lid design. The netbook casing has been designed by Karim Rashid and features interwoven checks in a wave like pattern. The lid surface is not smooth and undulates slightly which gives it a unique appeal. The material used is the similar rubberized one we’ve been seeing in netbooks of late and we approve wholeheartedly.
To no one’s surprise, the 1008P ships with Intel’s Atom N450 series of processors. Two major complaints with theĀ 1008HA were that since the battery was designed within the netbook, it was unreplaceable; and that there was no easy way to upgrade RAM. Both these have been alleviated with the new 1008P. It features a slot for RAM upgrades as well as two interchangeable 3-cell batteries capable of lasting 4-5 hours each.
The new chiclet styled keyboard is also very cool, as are the two color choices – hot pink and matte brown. We’d liked to see a few more mainstream color options as well though. You?
