Hands on with the rugged Samsung NB30
Samsung showcased a handful of netbooks at the CES this past week, and one that particularly caught our eye is the Samsung NB30. There are only a few netbooks out there which have durable features, and these are the more expensive business-oriented HP Mini 5101, Mini 5102, and Lenovo’s latest ThinkPad X100e .
The NB30 is an offering from Samsung that is tailored towards durabiltiy with:
- A spill-resistant keyboard that can handle 50cc of water, if it’s cleaned off in a few seconds
- An anti-shock hard drive system (accelerometer) that will shut down the hard drive if it detects the netbook is falling. Samsung says the computer can be dropped from a height of about two and a half feet without any damage.
- Rubberized lid and palm material that makes the netbook feel really solid and well-built. The material is scratch and fingerprint resistant as well.
The NB30 features a matte display and trackpad that supports multitouch. It is powered by the the Intel Atom 450 Pineview and runs on Windows 7 Starter Edition. The battery life is supposedly 11 hours, so it will probably last about 9 on full usage. This macho netbook will be available for the price of $379 in the US.
