HP’s Smartbook – the Airlife 100
We’ve been aware of HP’s Airlife 100 smartbook for a while now, first from FCC filings in January and later when they demoed a piece at CES and subsequent events. So what’s the deal with the smartbook, you ask – we’ll try to answer that.
The smartbook basically tries to combine the software components of a smartphone with the form factor of a netbook. So while it looks like a netbook, its run on an Android operating system (the Android Cupcake 1.6 to be specific) and is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Oh, and its got a resistive touchscreen.
Other features of the Airlife 100 are a 16GB SSD, a webcam, WiFi, 3G and 12 hours of battery life. While manufacturers usually claim a longer than actual life, HP insists that in this case the Airlife 100 will outlast its stated battery life comfortably.
