Lenovo and Qualcomm Smartbook
As part of our predictions for 2010, we mentioned the netbook/smartphone mashup – the smartbook. Lenovo and Qualcomm announced the first Snapdragon-powered netbook a while ago. This machine will be sold by AT&T.
The Snapdragon platform is a chipset from Qualcomm that bundles a low power ARM-based processing unit with integrated graphics and wireless features. The graphics chip will support 720p HD video and be available for both smartphones as well as smartbooks. The smartbook will be “always connected”, which means it will be receiving emails and messages even when its folded up and in your bag (like a phone). The device is fingered for an official launch at the CES in a few days.
We don’t know how much the smartbook will cost at this point, or if it will be available through only an AT&T contract.
