Lenovo S10 Review

Lenovo S10 Netbook Review – Rating: 5/7

The Lenovo Ideapad S10 is a sturdy built netbook. The main things which make it different are the fact that it’s very simple to upgrade and it has an integrated express card slot.  At the moment,  you can buy the 6 cell Lenovo S10 for $400.

Lenovo S10 Review – Top Features

  • Express card slot – The express card slot which is seen on few netbooks, is an essential feature and allows for greater extensibility and connectivity. Purchase extra hardware and you will be able to browse the Internet wherever there is mobile phone reception.
  • Build quality– The Lenovo Ideapad S10 is strong and has a high quality build.
  • Extra Software Features – You will get some nice extra software features – such as the Veriface software for webcam netbook security. The Lenovo quick start operating system. Finally some power settings features to make sure you use your battery to it’s fullest.
  • Screen – The 10.2 inch anti-glare, matte  screen is colourful and nice to use outdoors, as well as indoors.
  • Touchpad – In comparison to newer netbooks, the Lenovo S10 has a responsive touchpad which supports multi-touch gestures. It also has surprisingly decent touchpad buttons.
  • Upgrades – The S10 is easier to upgrade than the majority of netbooks on the market today.

Lenovo S10 Review – Drawbacks and things to keep in mind

  • Keyboard – Recent netbooks with 10″ screens have better keyboards than the one seen on the Lenovo Ideapad S10. While the S10 keyboard is comfortable and well designed, it may feel a bit small for some of you to work on.
  • Standard netbook – Despite some features, the Lenovo Idepad has pretty average hardware specifications.
  • Connectivity – On newer models of the Lenovo Ideapad, you will not get Bluetooth.

Lenovo S10 Netbook Ratings

  1. Price and Value for Money – 0.5 stars. The Lenovo Ideapad S10 is priced fairly well for the features packed in.
  2. Speed and Performance – 0.5 star. The normal Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor will run everyday applications well.
  3. Screen – 1 star. This S10 screen does not have the highest resolutions at 1024×600 but it features an AnitGlare matte screen. This will appeal those of you who find it impossible to work on glossy netbook screens outdoors.
  4. Keyboard and Usability – 0.5 star. While the touchpad is designed well, the keyboard is not to the standard of newer netbooks.
  5. Portability and Battery Life – 1 star. The 6-cell model comes with a good battery life that will last you roughly 5.5-6 hours.
  6. Looks and Design – 1 star. The Lenovo Ideapad S10 comes in a variety of colors and has a nice plastic design which will reduce fingerprint marks and smudges.
  7. Connectivity & Extensibility – 0.5 star. Unfortunately, newer models of the Lenovo Ideapad S10 trade in bluetooth for the integrated express card slot.

That  gives the Lenovo S10 an overall rating of 5 stars out of 7.

Lenovo S10 Review – The Bottom Line

The Lenovo Ideapad S10′s express card slot, easy upgrades, multi-touch keyboard, and anti-glare screen make it an ideal netbook for those of you who are looking for practicality in a netbook – rather than just fashion and features. While it does not pack any features to call it “perfect” or “unique”,  we found it certainly solves the basic issues, while adding some additional software features not seen in other netbooks.

If you have searched for and tried a multiple number of other netbooks and still find that few of them pack in the essential features you need, then we recommend the Lenovo Ideapad S10.
