Lenovo unleashes the (Supercool!) IdeaPad U1 Hybrid
Ladies and Gentlemen…once in a while, we’re privileged to see something truly innovative – and the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 counts as on of those things. Take a look at this beauty.
This may be the future of computing – a netbook and a multi -touch slate tablet rolled into one! The most interesting thing about this beautiful device is that when the screen is attached to the lid, i.e. when it’s in netbook mode, the processor powering it is a CULV Intel Core 2 Duo processor that runs Windows 7 Home Premium. But when you snap the 11.6 inch LED screen out from its casings, it morphs into a Qualcomm Snapdragon powered-multitouch slate with a 16GB SSD that boots Lenovo’s customized Skylight Linux interface.
The fabulosity (yes – I just made that word up) of the thing is that the processors synchronize when the screen is attached to the rest of the chassis. This means that the device harnesses the computing resources of both microprocessors.
Both devices are meant to give you 5 hours of 3G compatible battery life. ”By fusing the functionality of a notebook with the slate tablet’s rich multi-touch entertainment and mobile Internet experience, U1 provides consumers the freedom to choose the device they prefer for any activity,” Lenovo Senior Vice President Liu Jun said.
The IdeaPad U1 Hybrid will be available from June 2010 at $999.
Lenovo is really kicking up a storm this year with 3 very cool products. Check out our previews – first they came up with the Lenovo S10-3t which is a netbook-tablet swivel design that retails for under $500. Then they introduced the Qualcomm Snapdragon based smartbook – the Skylight. And now this. Very impressive stuff.
