McDonalds now offering free Wi-Fi

mcdwifi1You may be wondering what McDonalds is doing headlining one of our blog posts, but when an outlet with over 14,000 outlets in the US offers free wireless internet, that’s newsworthy! Now the burger-serving outfit from Illinois did have Wi-Fi earlier, but charged customers about $1.5 per hour to use it.

Now McDonalds is not exactly a place we’d sit at for long hours to begin with, and paid wireless wouldn’t be any kind of temptation. But free Wi-Fi? Hmmmm…. I’d hand around for a while at my local Macky Ds’ with netbook in tow.

McDonalds said they’re not going to offer free internet, and this is a response to customer demand.

“One thing our customers have told us is: ‘We like your Wi-Fi, but would you make it free?’ This is one thing they’ve consistently asked for. It’s just another reason to come to McDonald’s” said David Groom chief information officer for McDonalds USA.

Will free Wi-Fi sell more burgers and fries? We think it will, with people sitting at a Macky D longer responding to their hunger pangs while surfing. What do you think?
