MSI’s upcoming netbooks

Three new netbooks have been added to the MSI roster on their official website. Although the model names are fresh - the MSI Wind L1300, L1350, and L2300; on closer inspection the new netbooks appear to be updates to existing models.

MSI Wind L1300 & L1350

They sound almost like the U130 and U135 and we suppose they’re updates to the same. Both netbooks feature a 10.1 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display and 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor. The L1300 will run on Windows XP and the L1350 on Windows 7 Starter edition. Besides these netbooks having a 20% wider trackpad than the U series, we don’t know how they’re different.

The L1300 is available on Amazon for $279.99 and the L1350 retails between $279.99 and $329.99.

MSI Wind L2300

Again very similar to the U230, the L2300 has a 12.1 inch 1366 x768 pixel display and a AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 processor.

We’re waiting to get our hands on these models so we can break them down. Keep watching this space for more info.

Best iPad accessories

It’s been out for a while now and it’s been mopped up by the masses. Yes, we love the iPad and that’s why we’re listing out some of the coolest accessories you can team up with it.

CrazyOn Black Leather Carry Case

crazyon-leather-case

This is a nifty little accessory for your iPad and better than the iPad cover provided. The black leather is of a good quality and the elastic band system does an excellent job of holding the iPad snug in its place. While this isn’t going to protect your iPad from a fall, it’ll do a good job keeping it clean of dust and scratches.

Retails for $19.99 on amazon.

Apple Keyboard Dock

The keyboard dock makes the iPad experience a whole lot richer. Sure, the touchscreen is fab and everything, but there are times when a physical keyboard makes things a lot easier. The keyboard works with other accessories like Dock Connector to VGA Adapter and iPad Camera Connection Kit.

Retails for $69 on the Apple store. Amazon sells it, but at $99.

Boog Taipan Slim XS Bag

taipanslimipadbagThis is a compact, but roomy and lightweight bag. There is interior padding in the iPad compartment, as well as compartments for the power adapter and any accessories. Other features include two foldable handles and a completely removable shoulder strap. The outer-casing has a water repellent coating for extra protection. The Taipan Slim XS is available in three colors – black, brown and violet.

Available at the Boog website for $69.95

AppleCare Protection Plan

Every iPad buyer gets 90 days of complimentary telephone support and a 1 year limited warranty. Taking that into account, getting an AppleCare Protection Plan is probably a good idea. The plan extends the warranty to two years, and includes repair/replacement of the iPad, battery, usb cable and power adapter. You also get a mail-in or walk-in facility for the iPad free and software support is also included. Available on Apple for $99 and on Amazon for $85.

HP shelving the Slate?

This just heard from a source “who’s been briefed on the matter” over at TechCrunch – HP is killing the tablet that they’ve hyped for months as a better alternative to the iPad. Now, we’ve looked at a few of the netvertibles and tablets already on the market and most of em’ fall way short of being serious competition. We were holding out on the Slate being the one, but ah – who were we kidding. There could be a number of reasons why HP (may) be killing the Slate.

hp-slate-big

One of them is the “meh” review of the leaked Slate. Spanish website Conecti.ca got their hands on a leaked Slate, put up a few pictures, wrote a short description and basically called the Slate “whatever”. Also unlike the iPad pre-release hype, the Slate has had next to none. Even though HP have desperately been trying to drum some up. And thirdly, the OS and CPU seem to be of some concern. Quote from TechCrunch -

“Our source tells us that HP is not satisfied with Windows 7 as a tablet operating system… [and] may also be abandoning Intel-based hardware for its slate lineup simply because it’s too power hungry.”

HP’s official response to these rumors was that they “don’t comment on rumors or speculation.” Now that seems like a cop-out if there ever was one. A company going ahead with their product would probably say that these rumors were baseless.

If true, we actually agree with this move. If HP isn’t confident that their product cannot compete, withholding it for now is brave and might save them a chunk of cash.
