Samsung NB30 Netbook Review
Samsung NB30 Netbook Review – 6.25/7
We’ve been impressed with most Samsung netbooks so far, and the NB30 keeps up to that expectation. It features the base rung of netbook specifications from the N450 processor and 1GB memory, to the 160GB storage. But unlike most of its competitors, the NB30 does have a USP – namely that it has been tailored towards durability.
Apart from a keyboard that is spill-resistant to up to 50cc of liquid, the Samsung NB30 has an inbuilt accelerometer which automatically detects if the netbook is falling and shuts down the hard drive, protecting the data on it. The lid is made of a rubberized material that is fingerprint proof and spill resistant. The NB30 is thus a good option for business executives with a conservative bent of mind. Or even homes with kids. Lets see how the rest of the netbook measures up.
Samsung NB30 Netbook Review – Top Features
- Protective tabs – The NB30 is one of very few netbooks with protective trappings, and it stands to be a major draw for consumers.
- USB charging port – A nice touch is the inclusion of a USB port that charges devices even when the netbook is switched off.
- Excellent keyboard – The keys are individually raised and evenly spaced, making typing extremely pleasant.
Samsung NB30 Netbook Review – Drawbacks and things to keep in mind
- Average battery life – The netbook lasts about 6 odd hours, which isn’t too impressive with the advent of the new N450 chipset.
- Exterior “on” switch – Instead of a button somewhere inside the NB30, there is a slider outside for switching the netbook on and off, which is kind of annoying.
Samsung NB30 Netbook Review – Ratings
- Price and Value for money – 1.0 Star. The NB30 has unique features,a rugged design and is available for a reasonable price.
- Speed and Performance – 0.75 Star. This netbook sits firmly in the middle with average specifications and performance.
- Screen – 0.75 Star. The 1024 x 600 resolution screen is a good one
- Keyboard, Touchpad, Useability – 1.0 Star. The keyboard is amongst the best and the touchpad is good too.
- Portability and Battery Life – 0.75 Star. At 2.7lbs, this is a light machine. Its battery life does leave a bit to be desired though
- Looks and Design – 1.0 Star. We quite like the rubberized material used as well as the matte black finish. The NB30 looks touch and is built really solidly.
- Connectivity and Extensibility – 1.0 Star. A decent cropping of ports with the standout being the chargeable while down feature.
This gives the NB30 an overall rating of 6.25 out of 7 Stars. It’s available for $339.99 on amazon.
Samsung NB30 Netbook Review – Our Recommendation
The NB30 makes a strong case for itself. First off, its a looker. The textured lid is both rugged and useful. The accelerometer, spill-resistant board and downtime charging complete the package. As we’ve mentioned earlier, if you’re concerned about protecting your data, or are clumsy, or have kids who are around the machine – the Samsung NB30 is a good choice to make. At the price of $339.99 on amazon, its quite decently priced as well. Definitely a buy in our books.
