Sony Vaio X Netbook Review
Sony Vaio Netbook X Review – 6.25/7
So Sony’s come out with a ridiculously light and ridonkulously priced netbook a la the X series. When I say ridiculously light I mean it – this anorexic netbook (can I even say that?) tips the weighing scale at 1.5lbs! That’s about 60% of what the next lightest netbook weighs. It’s also just half an inch thick. Amazing you say! Yes, but for a steep price. This ultralight netbook that’s made out of carbon-fiber will set you back by $1300. So what other tricks does it have up it’s…ermmm, sleeve?
Sony Vaio X Netbook Review – Top Features
- Puts other netbooks to shame – This netbook is super-sleek, super-sexy, and uber-cool, price be damned. Whip one of these out, and nothing even stands close. This will be the centre of attention.
- Incredibly light – Sony has managed to shave off almost half the weight and thickness of a standard netbook with this lean machine.
- Great keyboard with multi-touch – The Vaio X Series features a sunken panel with chiclet syle keys. The trackpad is tailored to respond to the same multi-touch gestures as the ones on Macs. Awesome.
- High quality screen – The 1366×768 resolution 11.1″ screen is very nice. The display is bright, rich and crisp. Great for watching videos.
Sony Vaio X Netbook Review – Drawbacks and things to keep in mind
- Very Expensive – The Vaio X has a price tag that puts it a really exclusive bracket. It could actually work in Sony’s favour because its so out of whack with other netbook prices and so unique. Sony may catch the fancy of jet-setting executives with the Vaio X. Of course, that leaves mere mortals like you and me out of the picture.
That’s all that’s wrong with this netbook though.
Sony Vaio X Netbook Review – Ratings
- Price and Value for Money – 0.5 Star. Even tough this netbook has a high tag, it kind of justifies it with a superb all-round performance and simply because it’s vastly unique.
- Speed and Perfomance – 0.75 Star. The Atom powered netbook runs on 2.0GHz and is only marginally better than most other netbooks. Bootup and shutdown times are snappy though.
- Screen – 1.0 Star. We loved the screen. The X Series has a higher res screen along with an inch on most other netbooks. The quality of viewing is really good.
- Keyboard, Touchpad and Useability – 1.0 Star. The keyboard is almost like a Macbook spare, and the use of multi-touch gestures pleased us greatly.
- Portability and Battery Life – 1.0 Star. The Sony Vaio X has a smaller battery that lasts 3 hours, but comes with a clunkier replacement battery. The combined fire power of these two lasted 15 hours in one test.
- Looks and Design – 1.0 Star. Just look at a picture.
- Connectivity and Extensibility – 1.0 Star. The X features 802.11n WiFi, Ethernet and 3G compatibility in addition to a host of ports which it surprisingly manages to fit on its slim frame.
That gives the Sony Vaio X a rating of 6.25/7
Sony Vaio X Netbook Review – Our Recommendation
We really love this netbook. If you have the moolah and can maintain excitement about your new gadgets for more than a few months, go ahead and buy this one. Its available on the Sony network from $1300.
